Te Reo Maori

This week in Aortearoa NZ is Maori Language Week,

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

I live in Gisborne, Turanganui a Kiwa, where approximately 50 % of the population is Maori. But I cannot speak Maori. I know words and phrases, but I can't communicate in any meaningful way in the language. So my goal over the next year is to improve in that. I am not sure I will be fluent, I am not good at languages, the words seem to go in one ear and out the other, and I can be lazy, but I will try.

Ahakoa iti, ākona, kōrerotia - Learn a little, use a little

I like that concept, that I can try. That I can make mistakes. I guess that is part of learning.

So will see how I get on.
