About Yompai: Curated Artistry from Thailand to New Zealand

Welcome to Yompai. Nestled in the coastal heart of Gisborne, New Zealand, we bring the warmth and soul of handcrafted Thai artistry into your home. We specialize in sustainably harvested teak kitchenware and hand-woven lifestyle bags, bridging the gap between skilled village artisans and the conscious modern home.

Our Story: A Journey of Purpose

Yompai began in 2017 with a personal mission. After living in Thailand for many years, our founder, Paul, returned to Gisborne to care for his family. Seeking a way to work with purpose while honoring the deep relationships he built abroad, Paul began sharing the high-quality handcrafts he had used and loved during his time in Southeast Asia.

Despite the challenges of shifting global landscapes and local trials like Cyclones Hale and Gabrielle, Yompai has grown from a passion project into a dedicated brand built on resilience, friendship, and dignified commerce.

Masterfully Crafted Teak Kitchenware

Masterfully Crafted Teak Kitchenware

Our collection of hand-carved kitchen tools is as functional as it is beautiful. From delicate salt spoons and robust serving platters to our signature wooden bowls, every piece is individually shaped from sustainably harvested teak wood.

Why Choose Teak?

Teak is globally prized for its durability, natural water resistance, and stunning, honey-toned grain. It is the gold standard for kitchen essentials—items designed to be used daily and cherished for generations.

Direct from Baan Lek

Our pieces are carved in small villages throughout Northern Thailand. We first discovered these artisans at the Bangkok Farmers Market and have spent years building a partnership based on mutual respect. By choosing Yompai, you are directly supporting the craftsmen of Baan Lek, ensuring their traditional woodworking skills continue to thrive in a modern world.

Hand-Woven Bags & Ethical Fashion

Hand-Woven Bags & Ethical Fashion

We have recently expanded our collection to include hand-woven baskets and bags from the village of Phanang Tung in Phattalung Province, Southern Thailand. These distinctive pieces are woven using heritage techniques, offering a stylish, eco-friendly alternative for the conscious shopper who values texture, durability, and tradition.

Our Values: Work with Dignity

Our Values: Work with Dignity

At Yompai, we believe that every transaction should empower the person behind the product.

  • Direct Sourcing: We buy directly from the artisans, bypassing traditional middlemen to ensure the makers set their own prices.
  • Community Impact: Every purchase provides a stable, fair income for village families and helps preserve regional crafts.
  • Sustainability: We prioritize natural, renewable materials and sustainable harvesting practices to protect the environments our artisans call home.

Wholesale & International Shipping

While we are a proud New Zealand-based brand shipping nationwide, our community is truly global. We regularly ship to Australia and the United Kingdom.

  • Retailers & Partners: We welcome wholesale inquiries and are particularly interested in partnering with boutiques and early childhood centers that value natural, sustainable materials.
