Our Story: A Journey of Purpose

Yompai began in 2017 with a personal mission. After living in Thailand for many years, our founder, Paul, returned to Gisborne to care for his family. Seeking a way to work flexibly while honoring the relationships he built abroad, Paul began importing the high-quality handcrafts he had used and loved during his time in Thailand.

Despite the challenges of global events and local cyclones like Hale and Gabrielle, Yompai has grown from a part-time passion project into a dedicated brand built on resilience and friendship.

Direct from Baan Lek
Our utensils are carved in small villages in Northern Thailand. We discovered these artisans at the Bangkok Farmers Market and spent years building relationships with them. By purchasing from Yompai, you are directly supporting the craftsmen of Baan Lek, ensuring their traditional skills continue to thrive.

Handwoven Bags & Ethical Fashion

Recently, we expanded our collection to include handcrafted woven baskets and bags from the village of Phanang Tung in Phattalung Province, Southern Thailand. These distinctive pieces are woven using traditional techniques, offering a stylish, eco-friendly alternative for the modern shopper.
