Did you know spurtles were invented in Scotland.
They were created to stir porridge, in the days before rolled oats, when you had to cook your porridge a long time, The spindle shaped spurtles helped get rid of lumps.
In the 70's Chef Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet used one, but it looked like a cross between a spoon and spatula.
These can be used for nearly anything, from stirring baking ingredients, stirring eggs, folding chives into mashed potatoes or stirring chillies more evenly.
You can even use them for stirring porridge.
